New Personal Statement

In this semester, I learned so many things from media 150 class.
I realized what I really want for my future. Even though it might be hard, I want to be a filmmaker or to be a someone who is connected with fiml and media industries at least. Since I have been thinking film and media as my dream, I encountered a difficult situation because I did not have a conviction to be a film and media director. The reason why I came to America is to make sure what my dream is. Before I came to New York, I had a hard time for family reason and I thought I chased somewhere like paradise. So I want to test myself in the other land which is New York. Now, I can have some self confidence while I was enjoying the class. Creating new work vitalizes my dream and removes some feeling of uneasiness about my future.
The one thing that I regret is my works in media 150 were not various trials. I wanted to show people several shapes of my works. I could create dark and gloomy, even unique, but my works were mostly bright and funny. Maybe next time I will make diverse works.
I really enjoyed this class. The media 150 is a great class to encourage people who is worrying about their future or do not have a conviction as a film and media maker.

Field trip to the Museum of the Moving Image

Filed trip to the Museum of the Moving Image was really great experience to know the details of film making. I was surprised that I found and experienced in the museum. The Museum has historical film industry's materials from the early film equipment to modern film technologies, and it is practical for those who study film to feel actually.

There are several interesting exhibits. Early the method of film making is fascinating. Drawing the image which is different little by little seemed like very hard working, but brilliant results. Also 3D image by using lighting and moving was outstanding during the tour. I was impressed because I didn't realize that heteroptics images can be a movie.

My favorite exhibit in the tour was sound effect editting place. The guide explained how the film sound make and use in movies. He showed us several sound examples in Titanic scene. One thing that I impressed was the sound in certain part of movie is never connected with the real sound of image. For instance, the elephant sound used as breaking ship and gun shot sound used as being cut ropes of ship. It called "Foley artist" which i am interested during the tour. It makes me think more veriety to make a film.

When guide said "the film might be disappeared within 10 years," I feel the want of shooting with 35mm film. However, even if the film disappear, I am sure that their basic method would be forever and it will inspire the future movie industries. The tour leads me to think of film making carefully and it was great trip.

Artist statement

I am not a profetional. I am not an artist.

I am an observer as a maker who likes watching people and creatures, and working with video. My favorite work is communications with people who show human relationships such as, conflict, struggle, even love. My works have involved in their lives and tried to let them speak up. It is story of what they want and what they feel.

When I was in school, my first trial called "Dinner", showed modern family life critically. It combined the general family conversation from the dinner table into opposit images which criticized negative family situations. My second work which is a small documentary, "Strangers voices," based on illegal foreigner labors' troubles like cultural issues and human rights. I was excited while I was making these works. I felt as if I took off my ordinary character and found remarkable personality. In a word, I became a stranger.

Since I have lived in New York, there are various and shocking issues around me. New York is perfectly composed as a good source of events and represented in unusual sorts. As an boserver, I am still enjoying and looking for these interesting enviromnets. Moreover recently I am trying to find my next trial which is setting up the boundary between realities and unrealities. The background will be in New York and New York people will be my targets.

Watch out! Here is a stranger.
